How Much Should My Cat or Dog be Drinking?

Welcome to The Hydro Pet Post! Today we're going to talk about a topic dear to our hearts, pet hydration.

How much water does your pet need?

It’s a little known fact that your pet should be drinking around 1 ounce of water per pound of body weight. As shown in the image above, that means a 64 lb dog would need around ½ gallon of fresh, clean water daily. More than you thought?

It’s also easy to assume that your pup or cat will drink will instinctively know to drink just enough, but that’s often not the case. It’s up to us as pet owners to make sure we are keeping a watchful eye on our pet’s hydration.

The amount of water your pet should be drinking for healthy development is also dependent on other factors such as diet, age, activity level and time spent in the great outdoors. An active outdoor pet will need a bit more. On a hot day, that can mean up to 4x as much!  An indoor pet with a moisture-rich diet may be able to get away with a bit less.

Stay tuned for daily information on keeping your pets happy, healthy and hydrated.
